Local Schools

Working with our local Schools
Halesowen Teaching and Learning Community (HTLC)
All Halesowen schools work very closely together and adopt many common principles and practices such as expectations in attendance.

The Headteachers and staff of all the primary and secondary schools in Halesowen meet regularly to organise community events such as athletics championships, cross country competitions, music festivals and a township carol service. The children also have opportunities to work with each other via school’s council and eco council meetings. We welcome many of our secondary pupils into our primary schools for work experience and the pupils are very supportive of each other.

We all want the children of Halesowen to feel part of our community, treating each other with respect and valuing our locality.

HTLC Philosophy

Leaders
Inspiring, innovating, challenging within a climate of inclusive and mutual support, developing outstanding leading and learning with all our school leaders.

Teachers
Belonging, collaborating, learning together, and sharing best practice, developing outstanding teaching and learning with all our teachers.

Children
Enriching, enhancing, sharing positive learning opportunities and experiences, leading to outstanding teaching and learning for all our children.

Remit of the steering group:

  • Look after finances
  • Ensure we achieve our objectives
  • Set the dates of meetings
  • Set the agendas
  • Set the agenda for the June conference
  • Set HTLC dates for the year in July

Secondary School links
We enjoy close links with our local secondary schools, working closely with: The Earls High School and Windsor High School and Sixth Form.
Our Year 6 pupils have an induction day at their secondary school during the summer term to aid their transition. We meet with secondary teachers to discuss groupings and classes and pass on all relevant information.

Grammar Schools
Every year a small number of our pupils take the entry examination for our local grammar schools. For the last few years, these pupils have been successful and have gone on to do very well at King Edwards and Wolverhampton Grammar schools.

If you wish to explore this option for your child, please contact the relevant grammar school directly.
